Marsdens Law Group

Marsdens Law Group

Marsdens Law Group is one of New South Wales largest and most respected law firms. Since being founded in 1968, Marsdens has become a community leader, providing high-quality legal advice and services in all areas of the law. They set a formidable standard of professionalism, integrity, and commitment.

“In the mid-to-late 80s, we began to see major changes in the way law firms were managing their internal and client interactions, thanks to rapid developments in computing and technology, so we began to look immediately for a technology partner who could help us stay on top of all the advances and ensure that our systems would continue to grow and evolve with our firm.”

Managing infrastructure complexity and controlling costs during rapid growth

At the time the engagement began, Marsdens had around 50 staff operating from a single office. As it more than tripled in size to over 150 employees across Sydney, Campbelltown, Camden, and Liverpool, its physical IT infrastructure began to sprawl. The business found itself managing 15 separate physical servers across two full cabinets, leading to high power consumption, complex maintenance, and inefficiencies that limited agility. At the same time, with lawyers frequently working long hours, there was a critical need to ensure reliable 24/7 system availability and support. Throughout this period of rapid growth and increasing operational demands, Marsdens received consistent support to help scale its technology environment.

Considered implementation results in real-world benefits

After careful consideration concerning their current and future technology requirements, Marsdens were able to reduce their physical infrastructure footprint from two full cabinets to a single half-height rack using Citrix software, HP Blade hardware, and a SAN. This transformation delivered significant improvements across the network and has since provided a strong foundation for future upgrades and scalability. The firm now utilises several advanced managed services, including:

  • Dedicated site management: Marsdens receives visits fortnightly (and as needed) from a dedicated account manager who is familiar with their network, firm and protocols. This means that Marsdens always receive the ongoing maintenance they need to keep their IT systems running smoothly.
  • Online help desk: Marsdens benefits from phone and remote access support where they can get personal, friendly, and knowledgeable assistance on demand.
  • Dedicated support: Busy lawyers often have to work odd hours in order to keep up with their workload. This was accommodated with IT consultants working extended hours each business day to provide fast, personal support whenever they need it.
  • Dawn patrol monitoring: One of the most innovative services, Dawn Patrol keeps Marsdens networks under surveillance 24×7. The logs are then reviewed by a live consultant at 6:00 am each business day. This service means that any glitches, server issues, or connectivity problems are often caught and resolved before staff arrive in the office.
  • Email patrol: Anti-virus and anti-spam software spared Marsdens staff more than 1.45 million spam emails each month.

Results from a successful transformation

This technology overhaul unlocked significant business value, reducing upfront hardware investment and ongoing maintenance costs while dramatically improving operational efficiency. Enhanced system performance and expanded storage capacity empowered staff to work faster and more effectively, driving productivity across the firm. At the same time, optimised infrastructure delivered meaningful savings in power and cooling, creating a more cost-efficient and sustainable IT environment that directly supports continued growth.

Our IT set-up is now one of the most advanced in the industry, and we can feel the difference it’s making on our bottom line.
